Categories and Duration of Study

- Doctoral degree students: 36–48 months

- Joint-training doctoral students: 6–24 months

- Joint-training master’s students: 3–12 months

- Visiting scholars: 3–12 months

Eligibility and Category Requirements

1. Applicants should possess sound political and professional qualifications; have a solid academic foundation and development potential; demonstrate outstanding performance in work or study; and be committed to serving national development after completing their studies. The age limit for each study category must meet the requirements specified in the current year’s National Government-sponsored Study Abroad Program guidelines.

2. Applicants must hold citizenship of the People’s Republic of China and must not have permanent residency abroad. They must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

3. For doctoral degree studies under this program, applicants should be outstanding recent master’s graduates or early-stage doctoral students, with core course grades of “Good” or above, and must be no older than 35 years at the time of application. For joint-training master’s studies, applicants should be outstanding current master’s students, with core course grades of “Good” or above, and must be no older than 30 years at the time of application.

4. Funding for this program generally covers one round-trip international airfare and a living allowance for the duration of the scholarship. Funding standards and methods follow relevant national regulations and the project approval notice.

5. Applicants must meet the language proficiency requirements: an overall IELTS score of no less than 6.5, or, if no specific language requirement is stated, they must meet the foreign language requirements for China Scholarship Council funding. For details, refer to:

Required Materials and Application Timeline

1. Required Materials:

(1) Personal resume in Chinese and English

(2) Invitation letter/Admission notice

(3) Resume of the foreign supervisor

(4) Proof of foreign language proficiency

(5) Study plan (in foreign language)

(6) Academic transcripts (from undergraduate studies onward)

(7) Highest degree/Diploma certificate

(8) Other supporting materials (e.g., research achievements, award certificates)

All application materials must be authentic and valid. Any fraudulent behavior will result in disqualification upon verification.

2. Application Timeline:

By August 25, 2025: The college will conduct resume screening, organize expert interviews (if applicable), and publicize the list of recommended candidates.

By August 31, 2025: Applicants prepare and organize materials for the online application to the China Scholarship Council.

September 1–3, 2025: Applicants log in to the China Scholarship Council online application system (http://apply.csc.edu.cn/) to complete the online application. Under “Application Receiving Agency,” select “Northwestern Polytechnical University.”

By September 8, 2025: Submit all required electronic materials. Materials must be in PDF format, named as: “Student Name_Number_Material Name,” e.g., “Zhang San_1_Study Abroad Application Form.” All materials should be placed in one folder, named as: “Project Name_Study Category_Name,” e.g., “XX Innovation Program_Joint-Training Doctoral_Name.”
